Millionairess Tracy Lord was seen in what can only be described as an ‘inebriated state’ at the party thrown by her parents on the eve of her wedding to George Kittredge.

As the party, attended by seven hundred guests, progressed it was noticed that Tracy Lord, along with several other guests, were somewhat the worse for champagne. Not only was Ms Lord herself misbehaving atrociously but also she was inciting other guests and even the servants to join her!

So might have run the article of the two journalists who were undercover guests at the party. However, as the plot progresses it becomes apparent why this story was never printed along with the accompanying photographs!

High Society tells the story of the beautiful Tracy Lord and her eccentric family as she prepares to marry for the second time. Her groom-to-be is the ambitious and prudish George Kittredge. To add to the chaos, her ex-husband also turns up!

This is a recipe for a gloriously funny show, set to the fabulous music of the great Cole Porter. There are more well-known and loved standards in the show than most other shows of the period. They range from the sentimental "True Love" and "I Love Paris" to the sparklingly witty and memorable "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" and "Just One of Those Things", and of course the classic "Well, Did You Evah?"

Waveney Light Opera Group present their production of High Society as the latest of their string of successes: Little Shop of Horrors, Annie Get Your Gun and Disco Inferno. As usual, the Group will convert Beccles Public Hall into a theatre by putting tiered seating in the auditorium, so that every seat has a good view.

High Society takes place at 7.30pm in Beccles Public Hall from 16th October to 20th October.
