Sanderling Internet, Bungay

Sanderling Internet

When Kevin Allenby and Val Page formed their own web design company, Sanderling Internet, one of the first websites they wanted to create was for the town of Bungay.

“Having lived here for all my life, I really do have a great affection for the town and wanted to do something and what better way than to give the town a website that would be a community site.” explained Val “The way it has developed has astounded us far more than we envisaged and our statistics show that our unique visitors now exceed 7000 per week”

Following a previous life as an industrial chemist, Kevin became interested in the early days of web development and taught himself web design. He built a website for the company for which Val was working at the time and the rest as they say is history.

During the past seven years the business has grown, with clients all over the world from small B&B’s to complicated e-commerce sites with a shopping cart system. The most recent of these are for Bungay born Julie Gunton who is selling premium beauty products from her business Booty World (www.bootyworld.co.uk) and Ditchingham artist Noelle Francis (www.noellefrancis.co.uk) and Collen and Clare in Southwold. However the majority of their clients are much further afield including, Devon, Isle of Islay, Scotland, (four different clients), several large holiday lettings agencies, Essex NHS Research and Development, a new one in Belfast, and even Tobago to name but a few! And of course local clubs are not forgotten, such as the Bungay Marathon and Bungay Town Football Club.

One of Sanderling Internet’s largest sites is Birds of Britain www.birdsofbritain.co.uk, which is Kevin’s passion, him being a lifelong birdwatcher and this also explains the name of the company. Why Sanderling? Well although Sanderlings breed in the Arctic tundra they winter on beaches around the world from Lowestoft to Cape Town so like these little birds the motto of Sanderling Internet is “Spread your Wings”

The business is far more than building a website. Kevin and Val build their sites to comply with all the latest standards and guidelines including those for accessibility which enables people with various disabilities to use a website as easily as possible. The company specialises in getting websites ranked highly in search engines and indeed another part of their business is involved in marketing sites that others have built.

Kevin and Val find the mix of artistic, technical and marketing elements involved extremely satisfying, enjoy meeting and working with their clients and are privileged to gain an insight into such a variety of businesses.
