All you ever wanted to know about
being a retained FireFighter in Suffolk
being a retained FireFighter in Suffolk
To quote Mark Twain, "The rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated".
I know. It's been ages since my last post. No, last post not the Last Post - the only sound I'd get out of a bugle is that of a strangled cat or, more likely, a wet fart!
To be honest there really hasn't been much to blog about.
We've had a visit from an emissary of Endeavour House, telling us that they don't know any more than we do about the possibility of us being the subject of a free transfer to Norfolk.
To be honest, we would probably be better off in Norfolk. They'll probably change the new fire station into sheltered housing and give Normanshurst a facelift while we could see an increase in shouts. Because of our geography we would most likely still get called into the slimmer Suffolk as they would lack adequate fire cover in the North. Add to this the fact that Norfolk aren't shy in nipping in, under the radar, and pilfering Suffolk's calls...
Suffolk Fire and Rescue aren't exactly flush with money. Remove your second biggest town and the budget for the fire service will take a hammering. And it won't be long before the Officer Class start scanning the Service Bulletin for jobs with bigger brigades - Isle of Man, Rutland (does that still exist?) or Rockall.
Another reason for not blogging is that I'm busy at work - that's my day job, not the retained firefighter bit.
I've taken on the day to day running of a business that I've had close connections with for a number of years. Problem is, as soon as you think you've sorted something out, it just opens up a whole load more things that need to be done. All as important as each other, all needing to be done yesterday.
If you've got nothing better to do (which as you're reading this, is probably the case), head over to the Good Access Guide and a snappily titled website, EU1107. We must be doing something right as we have recently done Disability Awareness Training for Kuwait Airways, Thomas Cook Airlines and Coventry Airport. And, at present, we are in talks with another airline about fulfilling their disability awareness training needs.
Perhaps I should approach Suffolk Fire and Rescue and see if I can persuade them to part with some cash... Don't be daft, it would have to be an IOU!
