Legal Drivers Bullied!

With my job taking me all around the country on Driver Training and watching other road users, I cannot believe how close drivers are travelling to the vehicle in front of them.

Many motorist now are feeling the urge to go faster in built up areas of 30 or 40 mph because drivers behind them are forcing them to speed up.

I am sure drivers who tailgate the driver in front are causing them to speed up, suffer with stress and emotional upset as a result.

Many drivers are unaware of their own unsafe driving behaviour and get frustrated with drivers in the lead vehicle.

On a dry road with good condition a minimum of a 2 second gap is required for the vehicle in front.

On a wet road a minimum of 4 seconds is required and if a driver overtakes and gets in front of you just drop back to maintain the distance.

Also when stopping in traffic pull up so you are able to see the tyres on the tarmac of the vehicle in front.

Leave space - if the vehicle breaks down in front of you this mean you have left an escape route to get out. Also keep your brake lights on as a warning until the driver behind you comes to a stop this again could prevent the rear of your car getting damaged by a following driver travelling too fast or as we said too close.

I really wonder how many drivers have read paragraph 124 on page 41 of the highway code this could well have saved them points and a fine.
