ABOUT US
Fans of mainstream films are well catered for in this region. But if you have been interested in seeing a wider range of films, without traveling miles, that’s not been so easy......until now!

Formed in 2006, Diss Film Society screens independent, foreign, low budget and art house films, as well as some box office hits.

Thanks to grants from the Diss Community Partnership, Awards for All and the Broads and Rivers Community Chest, we’ve been able to purchase high spec digital equipment. Both picture and sound quality are impressive.

We show films at the Park Hotel in Diss on Monday evenings, twice a month.

Doors open at 7pm, screenings start at 8pm.
Admission is £4 and just £3 for members (see details below).

As the cinema only holds around 80 people, it has to be first come first served, for members and non-members alike.

There’s a bar in the Hotel, where you can get a drink or something to eat before the show.
Tea and coffee are also available.

All in all, a proper CINEMA experience but in an intimate setting.

BECOME A MEMBER
You can become a member of Diss Film Society by paying £5, at any of our screenings’. This will entitle you to 12 months’ membership. Of course, you can still see a film without being a member, but there are advantages to membership.

• As a member you pay a reduced entrance fee of £3 (non-members £4)
• You have the right to vote at the society’s AGM and have a say on how the society is run

• You can have the forthcoming season’s programming delivered via email or post

• We will email you details on up and coming special events and news about the society
Supported by

This project was supported by the Broads & Rivers LEADER+ programme and the European Union.

LIKE TO HELP?
As with any society, there are things to do to make sure everything runs smoothly. We have a committee which has taken the society this far. However, there are always opportunities for film fans to help put the show on. You are always welcome to volunteer at a screening.

Summer Concert, Beccles Choral Society, 5th July

2008 a Year of Change for Beccles Choral Society

Sadly we must announce the departure of Vetta Wise, our very successful director of music. Vetta will be very much missed. She has developed the choir both in repertory and in technique. We wish her well and are sure we will keep in contact with her.

Because of this we are changing our published programme. We were to have performed Handel’s Messiah at Christmas. This is being brought forward to be our summer concert. More details of our concerts are below.

In September we welcome Philip Simms as guest conductor and director for our Christmas concert.

The choir is advertising at the moment for a permanent replacement Musical Director and if anyone is interested they should contact the secretary.

Taking the role of the villainous Captain Hook, Farrington said this week, “After over 45 years in the business I’m am absolutely delighted to be making my pantomime debut at the Marina Theatre and very much looking forward to trying out my evil Captain Hook on the people of Lowestoft. Jamie Rickers said: “I am thrilled to have been invited to appear in Lowestoft especially in a town that hasn't staged a full scale pantomime for many years. It is not only a great honour but an exciting challenge. I have many friends in the area and am really looking forward to making lots of new ones over my time with you all".

Hollyoaks regular Sarah Jane Buckley takes the role of Mrs Darling and the company will be further enhanced by the Nitwits Acrobatic Troupe, live musicians and dancers.

Peter Pan will be the first resident professional pantomime in the town since the early 1960s and marks a dramatic turnaround in the fortunes of the Marina which in recent years has seen audiences treble as its management has brought in major touring musicals, high profile artistes, professional drama, ballet, opera and since 2005 the venue has been the regional residence of the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tickets for Peter Pan are now available and start at just £5 each with concessions available for the over 60s, children and students. Family tickets and generous party rates are also available. In addition a number of shows have been specially scheduled to allow for school parties and on December 30 there will also be a sign language interpreted performance.

Marina Manager Martin Halliday said “We are delighted to announce such a strong cast for our first pantomime, the company behind the production have an excellent reputation and we believe our ticket pricing offers great value for money, we have come a long way over the past few years and see a major pantomime as the final piece of the jigsaw in our audience development. At last people will no longer have to travel hundreds of miles in the search for high quality, affordable family entertainment”.

Martin Dodd for producers, UK Productions added “UK Productions are delighted and extremely honoured to have been chosen to bring professional pantomime back to Lowestoft. We are looking forward to working with the management of the Marina Theatre to present an exciting and lavish production of one of the greatest stories ever told - Peter Pan, which will not only contain all of the traditional pantomime production values, but will also make use of our high tech CGI (computer generated imagery), to really bring to life those flying sequences. Star names, lavish sets and costumes, 21st century technology, and a rip roaring swash buckling adventure...don't miss it!"

Waveney District Councillor Stephen Ardley, portfolio holder for health and well being with responsibility for the Marina said, “I am particularly delighted that the Marina has been able to attract such a strong cast together with such a prestigious production company for its first pantomime. Peter Pan will be a huge boost to both the economy of the town and wider district and assist greatly with tourism in the area”.

Record your Demo CD - offer, Planet Studios, Bungay

"Record your Demo CD" offer

We offer a great and inexpensive way for young bands in East Anglia to professionally cut their first demo, guided by experienced engineers and musicians. We will multi-track record your bands drum, lead and bass guitar parts "Live" at our local venue in Bungay and complete the vocal recording afterwards at Planet Studios.

Our compact 24 bit digital multitrack recording process utilizes fire wire mixing desks and powerful intel Apple Mac computers with proven quality recording live events, including the acclaimed 'Code Indigo In Concert' double album released in 2007 - check out

www.codeindigo.co.uk/In-Concert.php

and also listen to the demos cut by our most recent customer, local band "Rooting Deep", which can be heard by clicking MP3 links below:

Rooting Deep Demo 1 -
Rooting Deep Demo 2 -
Rooting Deep Demo 3 -

The Planet team of David Wright and

Nigel Turner-Heffer are experienced engineers, composers, musicians and live performers.

They're members of Code Indigo and have a huge catalogue of TV, library and solo recordings.

Our basic package works like this:

2 x 10 hour days.

Day One consists of 5 hours live multitrack recording at an appropriate local venue in Bungay (arranged by us) followed by a further session in the studio where the backing tracks are edited, arranged and mixed.

Day Two consists of recording vocals for the three demo tracks, editing the backing tracks as required and then mix down and mastering of the completed tracks to CDr (we will provide 5 CDr copies).

Our aim is to provide a professional service in a relaxed and enjoyable, educational recording environment. We want our customers to leave the studio with 3 "High Quality" demo tracks, so our emphasis is on "Quality", not rushed quantity. As professional recording musicians ourselves, we want all product that leaves Planet Studio to represent the high professional standards associated with our collective and individual names.

****************************

Further information:
With careful set up to ensure the best quality recording, in our experience it's possible to record 3 to 4 takes of 3 songs, sometimes more at the live multi-track session, and we're happy to record as many as we can in the allotted time, so long as we have good takes of the 3 main demo tracks. Our main objective here is to professionally record the drums and guitars to get a natural, relaxed live feel from the band. Guide vocals are used but the vocals proper are recorded later back at the studio.

Bands can sometimes record 5 or 6 songs in the live setting, but realistically they can only record the vocals properly for up to 3 songs in the studio before the final mix and mastering. The beauty of our process is that young bands can play their music live in a relaxed and familiar way which should reflect in their music. The backing tracks can then be mixed and mastered using sophisticated studio equipment while retaining that "live" energy, and then vocals are added and processed as required in a studio environment to complete a high quality, professional demo.

Band members don't have to worry about playing individually in isolation to click tracks in a studio booth, which can be a difficult and costly process for young musicians. Our method is a much more relaxed and intuitive method of demo recording. It's also educational because the musicians can have involvement with the various stages of the recording and studio process with experienced personnel. This may give many young musicians their very first insight into professional recording techniques.

****************************

The all inclusive cost for this 2 day, 3 song demo package is £395.00 (three hundred and ninety five pounds) and assumes a 3 or 4 piece band comprising drums, guitars and vocalist.

We can also provide a 3 day 5/6 song demo package at £545.00 (five hundred and forty five pounds), again assuming a 3 or 4 piece band comprising drums, guitars and vocalist.

However, we can cater for bands of any size or persuasion and will happily discuss you particular band's requirements.

So if you would like your demo professionally recorded by a team of friendly, professional musicians and engineers who care passionately about the music they record, then please give David a call anytime on 01986894712 (or 07790445757) to book your demo.

The night features mainly original music as well as offering a covers giving variety for all.

Offering the covers on stage one will be the impressive The Blind Lemon Soul Band, described as the band “To Much Soul To Control” featuring a 9 to 10 piece line up, bringing the spirit of Atlantic Soul and Roadhouse Blues to The Room, the bands members based in and around Lowestoft and formed around seventeen years ago but have lost none of their enthusiasm, they recently played at Corton Hut and brought the house down with covers of classic by Otis Reading, James Brown, Etta James and Delbert McClinton, the band will be playing a selection of tracks through the night as well as finishing the live music with a selection of floor fillers.

Mario Price violinist extraordinaire brings his exceptional improvisation talents and his exciting celtic/gypsy/jazz to the stage to compliment John.

Stage three in total contrast features Burn The Headlines, recently formed with only a few gigs under their belt, their opening gig being in early May at Norwich’s Queen Charlotte rock venue and that is what these guys do, a five piece describing themselves as an Emo Metal Band their explosive guitar based songs will certainly liven up the evenings proceedings, the band features Danny Porter ex Lazy Poker Blues Guitarist, Will Gatley guitar/vocals, Sam Currier bass, Jason Westgate drums and Kev Mileham vocals, all are local lads so come give them your support.
