Seething Charity Air Day, 7 Sept 2008

Seething Charity Air Day
Sunday September 7th 2008

Visitors to this years Seething Airfield Charity Air Day can expect to be entertained with some traditional airshow razzmatazz, much like that of those barnstorming days seen early last century.

Aeroplanes will try to fly under a limbo, burst balloons and attempt to cut ribbons in an entertaining set piece that shows off some real flying circus antics, not seen at airshows in recent times.

Seething Airfield will host the eighth Charity Air Day on Sunday September 7th 2008 and the show this year promises new features in the air and on the ground. In addition to the flying circus routines, a target will be bombed by display pilots – using bags of flour! 2 hours of aerobatics, aerial demonstrations and flypasts will keep visitors enthralled and entertained. Local and national display pilots will come together and provide breathtaking manoeuvres, pushing their aeroplanes to the limits.

Live music is always a popular feature and this years show promises to deliver entertainment all the way as we welcome for the first time ‘The Silver Bird’. The Silver Bird is a replica WW2 Electra transport aircraft with fully functional engines! And when the engines quieten down, bring on the jive dancers, for the aircraft will suddenly burst into life as a sound stage with music of the WW2 era. When the Silver Bird is resting, The American Tan will once again delight crowds with their renditions of wartime songs as they take centre stage, for 45 minutes of pure nostalgia. We welcome them back to Seething for the third time.

Local car enthusiasts – vintage, modern and military (the cars, not the drivers) are participating again and in greater numbers following the success of last years show. The Norfolk Military Vehicle Group, Brandon Classics and Wymondham Old Timers will all have members participating with a varied range of vehicles on public display.

The event is proving ever popular with local traders since space for this years show had sold out by early June! Around 36 stalls will occupy the green, selling everything from hand made jewellery, aviation models and crafts to car products.

New to Seething is a display from the 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles as they were during WW2. Visitors can see a typical battlefield encampment, talk to the soldiers and just might, be allowed to look through the sights of one of their heavy field guns.

Plenty of entertainment for children to, with rides, an inflatable slide and a bouncy castle. For the younger children, Punch and Judy along with some magic from Professor Jingles should keep them amused, entertained and out of mischief! A full list of participants is available on the Seething Airfield website.

“We have a definite nostalgic theme this year”, says show organiser Paul Holmes. “Not surprising as Seething was home to several thousand Airmen during the WW2 era and that story is told most comprehensively in the old WW2 Air Traffic Control Tower Museum”, he adds. “But it’s not all about nostalgia, since the participation of Radio Norwich and their mascot ‘Norry’ the dog brings proceedings right up to date".

Thanks to sponsorship from Mitchells Renault of Lowestoft and Lowestoft Fire, along with contributions from local businesses, the organisers of this years event have been able to hold gate prices to those of last year. Proceeds are again being donated to the East Anglian Air Ambulance fund.

New direct flights between Norwich and Spain

A travel agency in Norfolk has welcomed the launch of direct flights between Norwich and Spain.

Global Travel Lounge, which has outlets in Sprowston and Great Yarmouth, stated that the news has been met with a positive response by local people.

Nash Al-Muhsen, operations director at the firm, said the launch of flights to Spain by LTE International Airways could be particularly good news for those who own property in the country.

He commented: "There are many retired people in Norfolk and lots of people who own Spanish properties along the Costas, so there is a big local market."

LTE will begin operating services from Norwich International Airport to Alicante, Palma and Barcelona this summer.

Wings and Wheels, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, May 11th

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
Comes to Wings and Wheels

Sunday May 11th at Henham Park

Halesworth Lions are delighted to announce that this year’s Wings and Wheels at Henham Park will include The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. This is an absolutely marvellous sight and one not to be missed.

This is the 5th year Halesworth Lions have held this event, the fourth time running at the magnificent Henham Park and every year gets bigger and better. Along with the memorial flight we have the return of Team Guinot Wing Walkers.

Not only can you watch their acrobatic display, but you can get up close and personal and talk to the wing walkers and pilots. For the first time there will be main ring entertainment with the Stannage Motorcycle Stunt Team and Razz the Clown performing throughout the day.

There are already over fifty light aircraft booked to fly in and land, with the runway turned 90 degrees more planes can land and it also means we have even more room for the vast number of vintage and veteran vehicles.

Plus a huge array of trade stands, demonstrations, games and rides including hovercraft rides to join the train rides and model boat displays.

Not forgetting your chance to win a car courtesy of M.R.Kings and Son.

All this is happening on Sunday May 11th at Henham Park, nr Southwold just off the A12, from 10am entry costs only £5 for adults and £2.50 for under 14’s.

Come along for a great family day out, for more information and to book trade stands or enter your cherished vehicle visit www.wingsandwheels-online.co.uk

Halesworth Lions is a small local Lions Club and all monies raised from this event goes to charity, and as you can image an event of this size takes a lot of financial outlay so if your company would be interesting in being part of this ever growing event and becoming a sponsor please contact Lion Paul Martin on 01986 872710 or via the web site.
